Wherever you are in the Zulu Kingdom you are no more than 3 hours from Africa’s iconic Big 5. Today you’re going to be a whole lot closer. We’re hitting the road pretty early. After all wildlife, especially the cool cats, are most active around dawn and dusk. Strap in, we’re going on an adventure.

Enter KZN’s premier private reserve [aka Manyoni]. Start with a briefing on game drive etiquette before jumping into an open safari vehicle for a morning game drive. Your ranger will keep tabs on sightings throughout the reserve giving you the best chance of being in the right place at the right time.

Time to take your sensory experience into another dimension with an alfresco picnic and some mind swirling cocktails. Sprawl yourself on your picnic blanket and tuck in or head over to the cocktail station for one of our delicious cocktails or get creative and mix one of your own.

Ready for a bit more wildlife? Jump back into your 4x4 and embark on another 3 hour game drive on the northern side of the reserve where the elephants are most active after all that’s where the marula are! Finish the day with a cocktail for the road before departing to Durban.

YOUR PICNIC LUNCH

We will prepare an alfresco picnic lunch for you so you can just relax and enjoy the experience. Cocktails and bottled water are provided as well as a picnic mat, cushions, crockery and wet wipes.

As part of your picnic lunch you can expect artisan bread, spreads (hummus, pâté), cured meats/falafel, smoked chicken/smoked trout ribbons, assorted nuts, fruit, muffins/pastry, snacking sized vegetables, green salad & olive oil.

* Please specify any dietary requirements that you may have when enquiring about this tour. We can almost always cater to it given enough notice. Travellers are not permitted to carry any additional alcoholic beverages.

Manyoni Private Game Reserve

Mkuze, KZN

The reserve was established when 17 dedicated landowners dropped their fences to create a 23 000ha protected area that was chosen as a release site for the WWF Black Rhino Range Expansion Project. After the introduction of black rhinos, a herd of elephant from the Kruger National Park were translocated to the reserve. Cheetah were reintroduced in 2009.

The reserve achieved “Big 5” status when lions were introduced in 2011. More recently, a pack of African wild dogs, the most endangered carnivore in Africa, as well as the highly endangered pangolins were introduced making it one of the premier game reserves in South Africa.

IS THIS TOUR FOR ADULTS ONLY?
Yes. You need to be 18 years or older to book this tour.

IS THIS TOUR WEATHER DEPENDANT?
Yes. In the event of rain or stormy weather, we may decide to postpone or cancel the tour. If this happens, all travellers are given the choice of moving their booking to another date or requesting a full refund. Travellers will be advised 24-48 hours prior to the tour.

ARE WE ALLOWED TO VISIT MANYONI ON OUR OWN?
No. Manyoni is a private game reserve which means only guests staying at one of their luxury lodges are permitted on the reserve. Furthermore, unauthorised picnics on the reserve are not allowed nor is self driving within the reserve. In other words, you can not do this experience on your own.

ARE WE ALLOWED TO BRING OUR OWN ALCOHOL?
No. All alcohol consumed on the tour will be supplied by Wild Routes Africa. Limited additional alcohol will be sold during the tour at R80 per cocktail.

DO YOU SUPPLY PICNIC BLANKETS?
Yes. We will supply all picnic blankets and mats as well as crockery and cutlery even if you don’t order your picnic lunch from us.

CANCELLATION POLICY

WHAT ARE GIN JOURNEYS

Gin Journeys are all about getting out into nature, going on an adventure and making delicious cocktails while you socialise with new friends.

ARE GIN JOURNEYS FOR ADULTS ONLY

Yes. There’s got to be at least some benefits to getting older. You need to be 18 years or older to book one of our Gin Journeys.

WHAT'S INCLUDED

All the important stuff are included. While on tour with us your transport, activities and cocktails are included. An alfresco lunch is also included.

CAN WE BRING OUR OWN ALCOHOL

No. All alcohol and cocktails are provided by Locals Who Wander. No additional alcohol will be sold for consumption on tour so best you pace yourself.

ARE THERE ANY ROAD TRIP RULES

We want these journeys to be a happy experience for everyone. That’s why we have put some road trip rules in place which have been designed to be considerate and kind. These will be outlined before you pay and confirm your booking. Let’s keep it classy!

CAN I BOOK THIS AS A PRIVATE TOUR

Yep. All routes can be booked as a private tour. There are no minimum or maximum number of travellers however the smaller the group the higher the price. Private tours can be customised to your personal preferences.
